Why do people treat adults with down syndrome like kids?

People you work with who help you will say they treat me like an adult, but they treat me like a kid. They don't understand why they do it and they say they didn't do it but I can feel it.
If my mom was here, she would have said something to them about their behaviour towards people with down syndrome because she always advocated for me but I have to deal with it by myself now.
If it means I need to stand up to say how I feel, then I need to, and they cannot throw me out for speaking my truth...I am too strong and I know that I am doing the right thing by standing up for myself.
Yes, I know we need rules, but it's not going to work like that...we need to have a full discussion about things instead of ignoring what is happening because this is called miscommunication when they don't know how to to respond when I challenge their decision.
We need to speak with love and respect. What they are doing is not correct....it is the wrong way of doing things.
